Mini Border/American Shepherd 30 lb Runt

by Renee

Aloha,

My 2 yr old Border Collie mix was diagnosed with gastroenteritis.

She vomited for 5 days plus blood in her stool with smelly gas. Her stool sample came back negative for parasites and her X-ray came back clear of any foreign objects.

I cook her organic chicken thigh along with steamed sweet potato, broccoli and carrot.

I believe she has developed leaky gut and needs to be on a hypoallergenic diet and switched to a novel protein like venison for a few months.

I’m going to also switch her to a raw diet and would like any guidance please.

Can you tell me if I’m moving in the right direction please?

Thank you for your kind support,

Renee 🐶❤️

Mixed Breed Border Collie Dog With Leaky Gut
by: Sandra

Hello Renee,

Yes, you are on the right track, but put your primary focus on healing the gut lining...not, the novel protein food which may, or may not, help very much to improve your dog's leaky gut issue. You can find out more about the other causes of leaky gut on this page.

It's kind of like..."don't put the cart before the horse ', or " which came first? The chicken or the egg?"

Switching your dog to a raw diet is appropriate. Make sure you include some bone and organs, not just muscle meat.

Best wishes for you and your dog,
Sandra
