Pet Friendly Lodging in Prince Edward County, Ontario

Welcome to Grey Stone Return Bed and Breakfast

( Leaba Agus Bricfeasta )

Grey Stone Return pet friendly lodging in Prince Edward County Ontario

Pet friendly lodging in a country setting.

Consider pet friendly travel in Prince Edward County, Southern Ontario, Canada. We are located just outside the main town of Picton, close to the small hamlet of Cherry Valley. It is a quiet, pastoral paradise here, close to all the major sight seeing attractions.

Five Good Reasons to Visit

1 ~ Unique island community in the Bay of Quinte. It is truly a four seasons destination. There is always something going on here, whether it be theatre, the arts, or world class gourmet dining.

2 ~ Prince Edward County is best known for Sand Banks Provincial Park. Here there are miles of white sand beach. There is even a designated dog beach at the west end.

Here is a lovely picture of the dunes.

Dunes at SandBanks Provincial Park While you're here, visit Lake on the Mountain. It has a fascinating mystical history.

Take your dog to run at North Beach.

My favorite place to take our dogs swimming is Little Bluff Conservation Area

3 ~ Prince Edward County is Ontario’s newest ' must visit ' wine destination. In 2000 there was only one winery, and now in 2010, there are thirty wineries open.

4 ~ Prince Edward County is steeped in a rich Loyalist history. It boasts the second largest area of Loyalist architecture, second only to Williamsburg, Virginia. Our Loyalist heritage can be seen everywhere ... in the colonial architecture, heritage tour routes, and our five museums.

5 ~ Last but not least, you can bring your dog on vacation with you. Stay with us here at Grey Stone Return. All dogs are welcome at our pet friendly vacation rental.

If you live outside of Canada, and are considering a dog friendly holiday, check the requirements to bring your dog to Canada here.

While visiting Prince Edward County, be sure to visit the off leash dog park in Picton.

For a wonderful, pictoral experience, look at these scenes of Prince Edward County from Phil Norton, Photo Journalist and resident of Picton. Phil is known as The County Photographer.

Grey Stone Return ~ Pet Friendly Lodging

Here is a good picture of our two bedroom, pet friendly vacation rental located at the side/rear of our main house. You have your own separate entrance.

We are often asked, How did you come up with the name Grey Stone Return ?

Well, since Fergus is Irish, of course we had to get something Irish in there. So in Gaelic, Return means sticking out at back of or, at the rear of.

Irish Shamrock So just for fun, I'm going to sprinkle some Irish/Gaelic words and phrases, through this page. Please don't ask me how to pronounce them!!!

My partner Fergus will love this!

Let me show you around....

Our pet friendly lodging is private and completely self contained. You can come and go whenever you want. You are also welcome to use the upper deck seen in this photo.

Feel free to bring your bikes. The quiet country roads are perfect for biking.

Here's a nice picture taken on the Upper Deck.

Have breakfast ( bricfeasta ) at the patio table on a sunny morning. It's like having your own private park.

This view overlooks our own deck on the lower level, and out over the grounds to the south east. You can see ( not very well ) my beloved Holly Hock bed.

I love holly hocks. They remind me of being a little girl and playing in my grandmother's ( seanmháthair ) garden!

Here's a view in the other direction, out over the field to the south west.

Your dogs ( mhadraí ) have three and a half acres to run and play. Our dogs are always up for the run too. The more the merrier. Dogs are fond of pet friendly lodging vacations too.

Since pet friendly vacation rentals are becoming more and more popular, we thought we would like that. It has been huge fun for us. We have met wonderful people and fabulous dogs.

Since we have four dogs ourselves ( three of them big ), bring your big dogs. They are welcome here. Little dogs are always welcome too, of course.

Grey Stone Return is pet friendly lodging at it's best. It is upscale, very comfortable, and reasonably priced.

Here's a peek inside.

Make yourself comfortable in the Livingroom ( Seomra Sui). You can enjoy TV with BlueRay, or relax and read.

GreyStone Return Livingroom

The next picture shows an interior stone wall in the livingroom, on the opposite side from the sofa. You can see the doorway leading into the bedroom we call ' Grey Stone Room '.

Also, you can just see a bit of the TV in the left hand corner, the microwave and small cupboard ( press ) with cutlery, electric kettle, blender and some other things that you might need.

The Grey Stone Room bedroom ( seomra leapa ) has an interesting story.

As you can see, this room has four stone walls. Before we turned it into a bedroom it was a small, free standing stone building, located behind our house.

Thus the name Grey Stone Return! It was probably built before 1850.

We have fun trying to guess what it might have been used for. One story goes like this.

The female ( baineannach ) school teacher of the little one room schoolhouse still located not far from here, lived in this small stone room and ultimately married the owner of the big house. Who knows!!!

Anyway, here's the lovely Grey Stone Room. Grey Stone Bedroom

You will find breakfast fixings in the kitchenette. Homemade bread, butter, ' Kelly Road Jam ' made by our wonderful neighbor Sharon Krock, and granola I make myself ( very tasty and good for you too ).

There is also a two plate hot plate. So if you want to fry some farm fresh, free range eggs ( in the fridge ), go ahead.

You'll find milk and cream too. There is also fair trade coffee and assorted teas from Ten Thousand Villages Picton.

As always there is a huge platter of fresh fruit in season.

Oh by the way, at our pet friendly lodging we also have a BBQ available if you would like to cook your own dinner one night.

Here are the breakfast goodies! Just because we are a pet friendly lodging doesn't mean that you can't eat well.

You don't have to get up early, put your makeup on, dress and present yourself at the table with strangers for breakfast. Just relax! Your dog can join you. Just like home.

Although we have two bedrooms, we never put strangers together. So if it's only two of you, you'll have the whole place to yourselves.

Actually, we've found that our pet friendly lodging unit is ideal for two couples. A short getaway with friends. Sounds like fun, eh!

Dogs Just Wanna have Fun !

We have a lot of fun at Grey Stone Return. Pet friendly lodging should mean that your dog has fun too!

I want to share with you, a wonderful Thank You ecard sent to us from Nathan and Emily who stayed with us recently. They brought their gorgeous German Shorthair Pointer, Mochi with them.

Mochi had much fun, running with our Pack...and we did too. Lot's of laughs!!! Pager, Teddy, Jack, Tuxedo and Mochi. Mochi was the only girl among the four boys. She had fun teasing them, believe me!

Does this look like fun, or what? Thanks so much Nathan and Emily!

An Irish Blessing

"May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields,

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand."

Max Relaxing !

"Hi Fergus and Sandra,

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving weekend (hard not to, with the beautiful weather).

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days in the cottage.

From the delicious home baked bread and farm fresh eggs to the play time with Max, Pager and Teddy.

We enjoyed exploring the area and especially loved the beach at the end of Welbanks Rd.

We hope to return in the summer.

Kind Regards,"

Winter

"I stayed with my sister and her 2 Bassett Hounds in November. We had a wonderful time.

It was like having our own little log cabin and looking out the windows and seeing the beautiful scenery was so peaceful.

We visited a winery and sat on hay bales for a Christmas Carol sing-a-long, shopped in the local towns, and enjoyed the lakes and scenery on our drive around.

The healthy breakfast provided was enjoyable. Everything was wonderful.

It would be an awesome place for a family retreat or to bring an older relative to get them out for the weekend and just relax.

Beds very comfortable too!

Pets are a big part of many families and they are welcome too ...entirely great experience for all.

~ Karen from Windsor, Ontario

"From time to time, to remind ourselves to relax and be peaceful, we may wish to set aside some time for a retreat, a day of mindfulness, when we can walk slowly, smile, drink tea with a friend, enjoy being together as if we are the happiest people on Earth.

Spring

Spring at GreyStone Return

"I spent hours searching for just the right place to stay for my writer's retreat. I couldn't have picked a better location than Grey Stone Return.

The beautiful combination of rustic stone and wood interior with big, comfy furniture and welcoming decor made me feel right at home immediately.

I was most struck by the warm welcome I received from my hosts, Sandra and Fergus, and by the all-pervading peace and beauty of the building and its surroundings. I had a very productive retreat, finishing the first draft of my book, punctuated with restful country walks and tea with my hosts.

My experience at the Grey Stone Return was picture perfect, and I understand its name.

I certainly will return!"
