The Best Natural Pet Supplements for Your Dog

Natural Pet Supplements can and do, help to solve dog health problems and maintain good general health if used properly. There is no perfect food for your dog, except what nature provides freely in the wild.

Even if you are feeding raw dog food, species specific, organic and human-grade, there is still a need to supplement, especially if you are trying to help your dog through a dog health problem.

Most of us are aware that these days, much of the soil is depleted or devoid of trace minerals and some vitamins. Crops grown in this deficient soil are also deficient.

When animals eat these crops, they also can become deficient. When our carnivorous dogs and cats eat food made from these nutrient deficient animals, this too causes nutrient deficiencies.

Not all dog foods are created equal, even if they include dog food supplements.

The pet food industry is a money making machine supported by expensive marketing and advertising campaigns.

I urge you to read this wonderful, comparison of thousands of pet food brands at Petsumer Report! to learn more.

Now, I'm not against making money, but not at the expense of my dog.

Feeding dogs is not difficult, and you are not so dumb that you can't figure it out. Feeding dogs should not have to be rocket science!

If commercial pet foods, kibble and canned, need added pet vitamins and other supplements, what does that tell you about the nutrient quality of the food?

The added cat and dog supplements that are added to pet foods are useless. They are added in such small quantities and ruined in the heat process that takes place to make this food in the first place. Much of the supplementation added to pet food is for human benefit only. It makes us feel good, but really isn't necessary for your carnivorous dog or cat.

If you want your dog to have a ' balanced ' diet, then feed a raw food diet for dogs such as the one I feed our dogs. All nutrients and enzymes remain intact.

If you feel that you aren't able to do this, and want to continue feeding kibble and canned, then consider adding whole food supplements yourself for general nutrition. Whole food supplements are different than dog vitamins and minerals. Learn how to do this properly.

If your dog is struggling with a specific dog health problem and you would like information on what natural pet supplements would help, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I believe there are certain situations where natural pet supplements can improve or even prevent a dog health issue.

Dosage Guidelines for Giving Dog Supplements

For individual clients in person I use, trust and depend on muscle testing for assessing body systems and organs, required herbs, and dosages. Since I cannot be with you in person, here are the dosage guidelines for dogs.

As a general rule herbs and supplements are given according to the body weight of your pet.

  • one capsule per day for every 25 pounds of body weight.
  • liquids - we use six drops per day for every 25 pounds of body weight.

These are general rules.

If you are in doubt, start with less and slowly increase the dosage, or Contact Me for help.

It is important to remember that, herbs act as food and will make a permanent health change over time.

  • put capsules directly in food
  • open capsules and sprinkle on food
  • insert capsules in a treat
  • give directly from your hand. Good Luck ! Our dogs will do this. They are just used to it, I think.

Giving Natural Pet Supplements to Cats

  • Cats are very finicky usually. Liquid herbs are easiest.
  • 6 drops per 25 pounds of body weight. Generally most cats are less than 25 pounds ( I hope ). Therefore 3-6 drops.
  • put drops in food, directly in the mouth, or on the paws. Cats are clean freaks and so will lick themselves to health.

Can Dog Supplements Be Harmful ?

Yes they can.

Often I come across people who are giving dog supplements in an effort to improve the dog's health or just because they think it would be a good idea.

In my opinion, things like flax seed oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Grape Seed Extract, Brewer's Yeast, Cod Liver Oil and general nutrition products ( I won't mention any names ) are unnecessary.

First, herbs and nutritional supplements as well as natural pet supplements are not all created equal. Don't believe all the marketing hype that makes it sound as if these things will cure all. You have no guarantee about quality control or quality testing.

I'm not saying these products are bad, I'm just saying that really, you have no way of knowing whether they are good or not!

Second, some of these supplements are isolated nutrients, have been processed, are no longer in their natural whole food form and are simply not natural food for dogs.

For example, why would you give your dog Vitamin E and Vitamin C? Why not just give your dog some fresh raw liver every once in a while. Liver is an excellent source of these nutrients.

You see what I mean? Give the whole food if possible.

If you feel that you don't want to do this, at least give whole food supplements that come with a quality guarantee.

Here's to your good health and the health of your beloved pet.

Use natural pet supplements wisely. They are meant to help your dog, and must be used correctly and in moderation.
