When the Flea Bites...Yikes!
Most of us shudder at the thought of fleas, and flea bites. The last thing our animals need are fleas and flea bites. Also, they do not need the health problems that come with pests such as dog fleas and cat fleas. The last thing we need in our homes is a flea infestation. Then everyone will be scratching...not just the dog!
The local pet stores have racks of chemical flea products. The vet’s office is just waiting for your yearly stock up of Revolution Flea Control, Advantage flea medicine, or Frontline flea and tick treatment. Pesticide services are standing by, just in case the problem gets so bad that your home needs to be fumigated...with the flea bomb. Humans can get flea bites, too. So watch out! An entire industry is dedicated to solving the flea problem and promises to get rid of fleas for you. I am not here to talk about how bad this industry is, and how it is poisoning our pets. ...but, I want to provide you with some food for thought. I want you to know that, there are better, more natural, alternative solutions for natural flea control. They can help you get rid of fleas once and for all. The itch from flea bites can be stopped with natural solutions also. My favourite remedy for itchy bites is tea tree oil. Fleas, like most parasites, will seek out the weak. Fleas are parasites, they will invade an animal that is undernourished, sick or stressed. Fleas and ticks always seem to prefer an unhealthy animal. Small and sick animals are particularly at risk. If a small animal or a sick animal, is infested with fleas, the flea bites can cause flea bite anemia. Fleas are particularly tough and resilient, and plentiful. If a male and female flea are placed in a new home, and given adequate food ( such as your dog or cat ) they will propagate and produce a population of millions in less than a month. How scary is that? The first thing to understand is that, healthy, well fed, contented pets, do not get fleas. This is because they have an active healthy Immune System that is able to repel invaders. High Potency Garlic is a natural anti-parasitic. Holistic Protocol for Flea Infestation Prevention. I want to offer you some natural alternative choices. The ultimate goal to keep in mind, is always, to work toward getting your pet healthy enough, that fleas will not be attracted to them at all. All health is based in nutrition. Diet ~ Grain Free meat based food. Dogs are carnivores ( look for whole meat as the first ingredient). ~ raw meaty bones to maintain periodontal health. ( Bad teeth caused by commercial pet food, is the main cause of Immune System stress ) Exercise ~ All dogs love a walk. Walking with your dog is a great stress reducer, and bonding experience for both you and your dog. Supplements ~ High Potency Garlic - Fleas hate the taste and smell, making it a natural flea repellant. Garlic provides a myriad of other health benefits, including but not limited to, Cardiovascular health and Immune System support. Garlic has been called nature's penicillin. Garlic is also one of the most powerful circulatory remedies. This herb is as effective as many drugs in lowering high blood pressure. Garlic destroys many types of parasites and infections. Dosage Dogs ~ 1 tablet per day from April to November. Small dogs get ½ tablet per day, or 1 tablet very other day...your choice. ( ¼ tsp ) ~ Vacuum all areas of the house, especially where your pet lies. Pay special attention to cracks and crevices. Put a commercial flea collar in the vacuum bag. (Do not put this on your pet ) ~ Spray all areas of the house, especially where your pet lies. Use a combination of Tea Tree Oil, Sandalwood Oil and Lavender Oil from Nature's Sunshine. Add ¼ tsp each in a spray bottle of water. Important Note Holistic natural flea control for your pet is, in the long run, less expensive, and better for your pet’s general good health. Flea bite season does not have to scare you!
