Our English Springer Spaniel

Is there a dog more gorgeous than the English Springer Spaniel?

I think not.

Oh, I know...you'll say that about your lovely Golden, and your little Jack, and your beloved old Lab...but when I look at Pager...I am reminded of this poem.

English Springer Spaniel

    DOG

When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees.

He then made all the animals, the fish the birds and bees.

And when at last He'd finished, not one was quite the same.

He said, "I'll walk this world of mine and give each one a name".

And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went,

a little creature followed Him until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth and in the sky and sea,

The little creature said, "Dear Lord, there's not one left for me."

Kindly the Father said to him,

"I've left you to the end. I've turned my own name back to front and called you Dog, my friend."

Dogs as Pets

When we think about dogs as pets...what comes to mind?

Well, maybe we have a clear idea of what we think we want. It's almost like going out to buy a new car. We want a certain make, a specific model and color. We want it to do certain things...get great gas mileage, be comfortable on a long trip, have good trade in value.

What are we forgetting? Is it all about us, and what we want?

Or are we talking about a living, breathing, creature. A animal, a dog...a creature with emotions ( YES...they do have ) who feels what we feel? Do we want a certain breed, color, temperment and trade in value, just in case we won't be able to keep the dog?

What if we move and can't take the dog with us, or what if we have a baby...and just don't have time for the dog anymore? Or what if we simply can't afford to keep the dog because he just has too many dog health problems? The darn vet is just so expensive.

Anyway...I'm getting off the track. This is supposed to be a page on English Springer Spaniels...and so it is.

I'm not going to talk here about the usual stuff. There are many good websites that will give you great information about this wonderful breed.

I want to appeal to your heart.

I want to talk more about English Springer Spaniel rescue dogs and why you might want to consider these dogs as pets.

Why would I want to talk about this? Because I live with one.

My gorgeous Pager is an English Springer Spaniel rescue dog. I don't have much information about him, other than what I learned from the woman who gave him to me. She got him from one of the local animal shelters.

What I do know, is that he came to me with many dog health problems. Learn more about that on my dog allergies page. I suspect that is why he wound up in the shelter. Too much trouble, and too much money to fix.

But guess what...their loss...my gain!

Pager is the best dog.

I have always loved the appearance of the English Springer Spaniel. They are picture postcard perfect. I think they're gorgeous. So I jumped on the opportunity to have Pager, when I found out he was looking for a home.

I am not an expert on this breed. I just know that Pager is everything I would have hoped an English Springer Spaniel to be.

Here's a picture of Pager with our good friend Dorota.

Springer Spaniel Pager is intelligent. We call him the ' thinking dog '.

He is attentive and listens to instruction. He is excited about life, and is very high energy. Pager just wants to be where we are, doing what we're doing.

Pager is the official greeter for our pet friendly lodging B&B called Grey Stone Return.

He is my second in command. I am the Pack Leader of course. Pager is friendly with people and dogs, and very well mannered...

...not to mention handsome... gorgeous in fact!

I wouldn't call Pager an obsessive ball chaser, but suffice it to say that if you choose to throw the ball all day, Pager is happy to fetch it all day.

The only thing Pager likes better than ball or frisbee chasing, is swimming...swimming... did you say...swimming???? Pager swims like a beaver, gliding effortlessly through the water. Unlike his best friend and ball chasing partner Teddy, our Chocolate Labradoodle. Teddy swims like a drowning man!

Rescue Pets

All of our pets are rescue pets. They have come to us from one source or another, all with one health problem or another.

Pager our English Springer Spaniel is no exception.

But look how lucky we are!!!

I would like to urge you to consider a dog from an English Springer Spaniel Rescue such as the organization Sandy Waldon works with in the UK. There are so many of these gorgeous dogs that badly need a good home. In fact, some are desperate to be re-homed. The breed rescue volunteers will find the perfect dog for you. They work tirelessly and without pay.

ESSW Please consider the English Springer Spaniel dogs as pets. I know you will find your best friend.

As I write this my gorgeous Pager is curled up, asleep on the rug at my feet, along with Jack, Tuxedo, and Teddy...my other administrative assistants.

Oh... and did I mention that Pager is gorgeous?
